Holi, a traditional Hindu festival which celebrates the beginning of spring as well as the triumph of good over evil, is almost here. It is best known around the world for the powder that revellers throw on each other, leaving festival-goers coated in colour by the end of the day. Although the festival originated in India and is still widely celebrated there as a religious event, it has been adopted in many places around the world.
On the eve of Holi, large bonfires are lit to mark occasion and to burn evil spirits. This year, the festival will be celebrated world-wide on Friday, 2nd of March. Traditional preparations usually begin the night before, with prayers, a bonfire, and religious rituals. The next morning is when the real fun starts, with people enjoying Rangwali Holi by having water fights and throwing powdered colours onto each other.
In order to increase their Asian market, Adidas have designed a new offering in collab with Pharrell Williams. The collection is inspired by the traditional Hindu festival of Holi, and will be dropping to kick off the Spring/Summer 2018 season. The Hu Holi Black Canvas collection consists of classic Adidas Originals apparel – including T-shirts, track tops, shorts and track pants for both women and men.
Every item in the collection has undergone a unique powder-dyeing process, in honor of the festival, and as a result every single piece completely one-of-a-kind. When it comes to footwear, the capsule collection includes the Stan Smith and Tennis Hu Pk, each of which features a bold, powder-dyed upper alongside white lining and crisp midsoles.
Imagined as a crisp white uniform to be worn for Holi, the Hu Holi Blank Canvas collection serves up four pieces of apparel and footwear that underscore a message of peace and equality. It also represents a continuation of the Hu journey, reflecting Pharrell’s founding vision of energy, color, and spirituality as a unifying force between people. Just add color.
