Honoring Luka Modric’s achievements, the limited-edition Golden Touch Mercurial 360 boot releases today on Nike’s website and at select retailers. The Croatian magician has ended the Cristiano Ronaldo – Leo Messi duopoly on the Ballon d’Or since 2008.
The 2018 Ballon d’Or Nike Mercurial Luka Modric football boots introduce a clean design in silver with a black Swoosh outlined in gold. The boots are available both as Superfly VI and as Vapor XII. Instead, they come with a fingerprint-inspired all-over print, which ties in well with the ‘Golden Touch’ name, as well as a fingerprint plate on the heel, black with gold details.
Drenched in an all-over ‘Pure Platinum’ colourway they can already be considered as one of, if not the stand out colourway for this current generation of Mercurial. We’re sure you’ll agree both models are a sophisticated upgrade to 2016’s Superfly ‘Vitorias’ and 2017’s Superfly ‘Quinto Triunfo’, finding an almost perfect mix of light with premium coloured accents. But no matter the Superfly or Vapor, the shimmering upper and chrome sole plate are a fitting compliment to the 2018 award.
Throughout his professional career, Modric has been an ever-present in Mercurial which is referenced in the design of these boots. That born-Mercurial DNA features as a fingerprint pattern stylishly laid over the Flyknit upper, intended to represent the individual and the talent that has risen to the top.
For us, it is another great example of the flexibility in design options the Flyknit material provides and the creative interpretation from the product team. With only 1.500 pairs of each available to buy worldwide, you’re left with the rather tricky dilemma of either choosing between the two models or going for broke to bag both Superfly and Vapor.
